Boy falls from boat on Fish River
WHITE MOUNTAIN
Anchorage Daily News, July 27, 2006
An 8-year-old Nome boy drowned Tuesday after falling off a skiff he was riding in
with his grandfather, Alaska State Troopers said.
David Ahwinona was standing on the bow when the boat turned toward shore and he
fell into Fish River, about 35 miles north of White Mountain. He was not wearing
a personal flotation device and was swept underwater by the current.
His grandfather, 83-year-old Jacob Ahwinona, was with him at the time.
The boy's body was recovered about 1 a.m. Wednesday, troopers said.
